How the subscription income calculator works

This free subscription income calculator shows how a service business can turn one-time projects into predictable monthly recurring revenue (MRR). Enter how many new website, YouTube and AdSense support clients you add each month, set a monthly subscription price for each service, and choose a monthly churn rate and subscription duration.

The simulator then tracks every monthly cohort of clients. Each month, previous subscribers who stay keep paying while new clients are added on top, so MRR, annual recurring revenue (ARR), total revenue, churned clients, net growth, customer lifetime value and an illustrative business valuation are recalculated instantly for 12, 24, 36 or 60 months.

Use the What If sliders to test targets, compare the traditional one-time model with the subscription model, unlock revenue milestones from ₹10,000 to ₹10 lakh per month, and switch on Presentation Mode or Present Anything to show any number or chart full screen.

      FAQ

      Subscription income questions

      What is recurring revenue?

Recurring revenue is income that repeats predictably every month or year because customers keep paying for an ongoing subscription, instead of paying once for a single project.

      What is MRR?

MRR stands for Monthly Recurring Revenue. It is calculated as Active Subscribers multiplied by the Subscription Price. For example, 100 active subscribers paying ₹999 per month generate ₹99,900 of MRR.

      What is ARR?

ARR stands for Annual Recurring Revenue. It is your current MRR multiplied by 12 and shows the yearly run-rate of your subscription business.

      How does subscription income work?

Each client pays a fixed fee every month. Because earlier clients keep paying while new clients join, every month's revenue stacks on top of the previous months, so income grows even if you add the same number of new clients each month.

How many clients do I need to reach ₹1 lakh monthly recurring income?

Divide ₹1,00,000 by your subscription price. At ₹999 per month you need about 101 active subscribers, at ₹799 about 126, and at ₹599 about 167. Churn means you must acquire somewhat more clients than these numbers.

How does churn affect subscription income?

Churn is the percentage of subscribers who cancel each month. With ongoing subscriptions and steady client acquisition, active subscribers level off near new clients per month divided by the churn rate. For example, 8 new clients per month at 5% churn level off near 160 active subscribers.

      What is customer lifetime value?

Customer Lifetime Value (LTV) is the monthly subscription price multiplied by the average number of months a client stays subscribed. Average lifetime is roughly 1 divided by the monthly churn rate, so a ₹999 subscription at 5% churn has a lifetime of about 20 months and an LTV of about ₹19,980.
